Identity

Throughout any given week, most of us "wear more hats" than we can keep track of.  For me, it's teacher (which encompasses MANY of these hats from counselor to coach, from nurse to encourager, from mediator to custodian), wife, housekeeper, chef, gardener, driver, organizer, and the list goes on...

Sometimes it seems almost impossible to be "good " at any one of these roles.  I often feel like I have A LOT to learn as a teacher, as a wife, and as a new homeowner . . . which can sometimes be discouraging.  I'm sure some people can relate to working a 55 hour week and then getting that SUPER disheartening e-mail or phone call from a parent (or boss/co-worker in the non-education world) who is unsatisfied with what you are doing in the classroom.  Or when you do 5 loads of laundry and your husband gets upset because you dried the wrong shirt....oops.  My brain tends to say in these situations, "forget about the 200 things you did well, this 1 shirt is now shrunk."  It can be so easy for me sometimes to focus on the negative and sin that I have committed than to focus on the good that the Lord is doing in my life too...

Without the LORD and His Word (and my church community) building me up daily and reminding me of his truth, I would never be content with myself or my performance in ANY role...

I am SO THANKFUL that even though I have crazy days of wearing hundreds of hats, and no matter what roles I play, that ultimately, I am child of the King. And his LOVE and FORGIVENESS are consistently showered on me.  No matter how badly I think I have failed as a wife, teacher, friend, etc., I am a child of God. And that's the most important thing.

1 John 3:1 says "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!"
